NIT – The American Planning Association has named Mason City one of 30 “great places” for business travelers.
According to USA Today, Mason City was named with the likes of San Francisco, CA; Minneapolis; Norfolk, VA and Madison, Wisconsin as places where “travelers with some free time may want to consider.”
The 2013 Great Places in America listed Mason City in the “Great Neighborhoods” category along with 10 other cities, including the ones listed above.
The article did not name any specific reasons to go to downtown Mason City.
Most folks who visit downtown Mason City list their favorite stops as Mason City Brewing, the Historic Park Inn, the Rancho Deluxe and Chop Restaurant.
This isn’t something that was bought. You might want to check with the City and the American Planning Association to see how the great places are designated. Pam Myhre was the one who got this started. If you see her, tell her thanks.
Yes, it sounds like they paid for this. IT happens all the time in publications like this. In fact I wondered if Clear Lake paid someone to have City Beach named as a great beach in Iowa. I mean really? That cat litter sandbox is considered a great beach? Be very skeptical of these things. If I were a traveler and read that Mason City Iowa was just as good to come to as San Fransisco and I booked a trip to Mason City to check it out…I’D BE PISSED!
That just means they paid their membership. It is a nothing.
