Man who wanted child dead is freed after serving 10 months in prison

NIT – The wheels of justice turned quickly for a Clear Lake man who was accused of trying to hire someone to kill a child who accused him of sexual assault.

Alan Michael Cannon was released from prison Tuesday after serving a grand total of 10 months of a five year sentence after felony charges ranging from attempted murder to conspiracy to commit murder to sexual assault were all dismissed or pleaded down last year.

Alan Cannon’s legal troubles started following a party at his apartment in Clear Lake in 2o11 in which he supplied alcohol to a female juvenile, 16 years of age. Following the party, the female juvenile reported to law enforcement Cannon had sexually assaulted her while she was intoxicated.

While on supervised release for charges of sexual abuse in the 3rd degree and supplying alcohol to a minor, Cannon allegedly approached two separate men soliciting one to murder the alleged victim and hide her body. Cannon gave the 2nd man $400 dollars to purchase a firearm to complete the murder.

The sexual assault charge was pleaded down to assault and Cannon was found guilty of the charge of supplying alcohol to a minor and sentenced to 5 years in Iowa prison.

According to state records, Cannon has been paroled and released to community based corrections.  His current location is not known at this time.

There is a no-contact order in affect between Cannon and his accuser until 2018.
