Cops encounter wanted man, clear more meth out of North End

MASON CITY – A wanted man who got too close to cops in a North End alley was taken into custody last week and discovered to be in possession of elicit drugs.

According to a report, Christopher Eugene Smith, age 47, had a “casual encounter” with Cerro Gordo deputies in the vicinity of 13th Street NE and 12th Place NE on January 14th at about 1:30 AM. Police discovered that Smith was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court for a hearing related to a charge of felony theft. During the arrest, Smith was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia.

Smith was charged with second offense possession of meth. He faces a January 22 hearing as he continues to be held on bonds of $5,000 and $2,000.
