CLEAR LAKE – A Clear Lake man’s announcement Monday made him the third to announce a candidacy for Cerro Gordo County Supervisor.

Casey Callanan, a lifelong resident of Clear Lake who is a partner at First Insurance in Mason City, on Monday said he will file papers to seek the Republican nomination for the Cerro Gordo County Supervisor seat being vacated by Bob Amosson.

Callanan, a 1998 graduate of Clear Lake High School, said that he “enjoys working with people from all backgrounds” and has been involved in Republican politics on the state and federal level since Bill Clinton was President.

Callanan interned for State Representative Gary Blodgett as well as Congressman Jim Nussle. “My business experience and public service involvement have shown me how to continue providing needed services without increasing property tax rates”. The candidate is married to Hunter Schurtz Callanan who is employed at CL tel.

Both the Democratic and Republican party primaries will be held June 3rd.  The filing period for county offices is March 3 through March 26, 2014 (5:00 p.m.).  The general election is Tuesday, November 4, 2014.

Callanan joins Swaledale Mayor John Drury and Rockwell resident Adam Wedmore as candidates.

I don’t know him personally. His dad is on the City Council in Clear Lake and also a member of noon Lions. My understanding is he sells insurance and his wife works for CLTel. As far as I know he has not been difficult to handle.

Is the insurance through First Citizens?
Again, in with the good old boys!

Just a POINT here, a year ago when Bob Amosson decided he was going to retire, the “good Ole Boys”–Jay and Gary, hand picked Casey for running this year. NOW if that doesn’t tell you readers how the Supervisor’s play the game–well

@ girdle, not Supervisors it is Blodgett. Jay and Phil are just puppets Gary pulls the strings you better believe. We need to get this out people, that is how this works its bad.

Why is the comment about lifelong resident
newsworthy? Does it uniquely qualify him for
elected office? Frankly, at his age there are
plenty of people who have lived in the District
longer AND have better live experiences outside
of only living in one town. Does he even live
in clear Lake and is he a home owner? I understand
that he is a house sitter for John Hanson?

Ya, it reminds me of all the candidates in prior years that would say they are a lifelong resident but are for change! The want to change agents! LOL Ya right.

Kennedy is a farmer, he deserves this he knows farming that is important. Got to admire any body goes up against Gary Blodgett, we are tired of him putting his choices in. Show the 1% the door. I am Republican.

Now is the time for people to unite against the One Percent. If Mr. Callanan wins, it will mean that our Board of Supervisors is under the complete control of one Republican, Dr. Blodgett. This race represents a threat to democracy in Cerro Gordo county.

Fight against anything Republican coming out of Clear Lake. It’s the good old boy club at its worst…or best if you’re looking at it from their perspective.

Would not surprise me if old doc already has start pulling strings for this kid, hell he use to work for him. Keep out this Republitard he is a Blodgett side kick, do not let big money call any more shot’s.

Oh, great. Just what will Blodgett do/spend to get this guy elected? Should be interesting. Please, let’s not put another Blodgett crony in there with Urdahl.

Just to let everyone know. This man’s father is Mike Callanan who is the current City Council At-Large for Clear Lake. Nepotism and Dynasties are something American politics should do without. I haven’t decided whether I will file papers seeking this office yet. I’ll wait and see what some of my supporters say.
