Stand-off ends peacefully Monday

MASON CITY – A man who neighbors feared could be armed and who refused to immediately comply with police requests to exit his home was taken away in an ambulance late Monday afternoon.

Mason City police responded to 639 South Jackson at about 3:40 PM Monday after a call from a neighbor who said that a man at that residence  was intoxicated, suicidal and could have a 9mm gun.

At the scene, police had the 600 through 800 block of S. Jackson blocked off. Four squad cars, along with fir trucks and ambulance waited to see what the man would do.  The man did not appear to be happy that authorities and emergency responders and come to the area.

Police ultimately made contact with the man and were able to calm him down and get him into an ambulance.  He had a female companion that was by his side who showed much concern.

There did not appear to be charges filed in the matter.
