MASON CITY – Last month he passed out drunk in a North End Kum & Go bathroom, and wouldn’t come out. This month, he tried to steal from a South End Kum & Go and hung around till the cops nailed him.
Early Saturday morning, Brandon Blake Slater, a 33-year-old convicted felon from Mason City, was a shopper at the Kum & Go gas station located at 1920 South Federal Avenue when he allegedly decided to take items without paying. Reports indicate that Slater was spotted by an employee and accused of shoplifting. He then left the store, but refused to leave and remained in the parking lot, yelling and “acting belligerent.”
Police were called, and Slater was still at the scene. After a brief investigation, police placed Slater under arrest and charged him with fifth degree theft, public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail, where he remained on Saturday on $300.00 bond.
Slater plead guilty on December 9, 2013 to public intoxication after a December 7th incident at the Kum & Go gas station, located at 1224 North Federal Avenue. Slater had entered the men’s room and refused to come out. Police arrived and convinced him to come out, and placed him under arrest. He owes courts $195.00 in fines and fees related to that case.
Slater is a convicted felon, accused of numerous domestic assaults, child endangerment, criminal mischief, and serious assaults, mainly in Polk County. In a 2009 felony conviction for willful injury, Slater was charged $18,792.13 in court fees, charges, fines and restitution. He still owes $17,513.96.

Maybe he should try something he is better at. Obviously he isn’t very good at stealing.
Is it any shock that a convicted felon unable to work is reduced to petty theft, pot and alcohol use in a poor town with little economic opportunity? When you have nothing a 40 oz “fawty” may be your only comfort in life.
When you insist on felonies for pot use, except the realty that it’s going to cost you in some way. You complain about money but have no problem paying $30,000 a year for incarceration.
Well.. pot legalization being irrelevant in this guy’s problems, by the time you get to be 33 yrs old, chances are that you-yourself have made the decisions and choices that have wound you up where you are. Remember the old saying: “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten.”

Irrelevant! The stated Felony was willful injury, domestic assault. It appears this man is a violent person, beating up on women. No mention of drugs at all that I could find.
Again, a person who’s Holy Grail is threatened, so he makes up excuses to justify his illegal drug use. Face it, you want your drugs, and you do not care how you get them, or who you hurt in the process. Then you act shocked that people don’t want that kind of thing in their community?

Read the article genius, he apparently is from Polk county. He probably figured out the same things the folks from Detroit has learned about Mason City, housing assistance and free hand outs.
