NIT – Could North Iowa someday be home to one of America’s favorite donut-makers?
After a Friday report in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, news was spreading quickly that Minnesota may get up to 50 new Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants.
Our neighbors to the north may not be the only ones enjoying the array of breakfast foods and drinks the restaurants offer. Surprisingly, six counties in North Iowa are listed as currently open for development for a Dunkin’ Donuts franchise. Those counties include Floyd, Cerro Gordo, Hancock, Mitchell, Worth and Winnebago. Only one other county in Iowa is listed, that being Lee in extreme south east Iowa. Almost every county in Minnesota is listed as open for development.
Dunkin’ Donuts has about 7100 stores nationwide. To become a franchisee, the entrepreneur needs about $250,000 in liquid assets and a net worth of at least $500,000, Dunkin’ says, as well as specific site requirements which must be met. There is no place in Cerro Gordo county that offers fresh (daily) donuts and I personally think that DD would be a great addition to the area. Besides, they have the best coffee this side of Jamaica’s Blue Mountain.
Those of you who think that its too fattening….. simple solution… don’t eat them. Trying to make a decision for everyone sounds pretty “Liberal” to me.

Dunkin Donuts would not last in Mason City or any of the counties in Iowa they said. You need a high volume location and for the amount of capital they require you are better off opening your own version, much like what we already have here.

Personally (and I’m sure I’m the outcast on this) but I consider this a good thing that they would look at Cerro Gordo as a potential location for a new store. That means that we’ve shown that new franchises can come here and be successful (Jimmy Johns, Pancheros, Starbucks, etc.). I know that for most it won’t be “good enough” but more variety and businesses is a good thing. Just my 2 cents.
They aren’t opening a corporate store, they’re soliciting investors.
Pancheros just opened and looks pretty slow to me.
With parking in the back I can never tell how busy Pancheros is, but no El Gordo – no business from me.
Chains, we need more chains.

Make meth legal in M.C. Owned and operated by city hall, poof, problem solved. Pay more than a donut shop does and the city covers will bulge, but most won’t give a schidt cause they’ll be tweeking!
The only business attracted to Mason City these days is a minimum wage donut shop! Judging by the mentality up there it could be tough to find employees. Elect Hellary Clinton, she’ll solve all you woes, just like obwana has, twice!! The only excuse for stupidity is welfare!
If I have a half million dollars with half of that cash I’m not going to open up a donut shop in MC and lose my arse. I’ll open a pot shop instead. Colorado is smart and booming while we moralize about something we don’t understand.

Probably the ultimate idea is to form an Iowa investment fund for cannabis. Let other people finance the wealth.
What you said makes no sense at all.
1. It’s not “timed” at all. Good genetics and edibles always wins the game and CO is hardly saturated. What over commodity do you pay $200 an oz for? Heck, for most commodities it’s $200 per ton!
2.It’s good for investors but not for individuals? A total contradictory statement if their ever was one.

You are absolutely correct Sink or Swim. It’s ridiculous what these investors conceptualize for businesses here in North Iowa. We already have a huge problem with sugary sweet corn syrup products, obesity, diabetes…and what does some uncaring jerk decide to do? Open up a commercial corporate sweet shop full of junk donuts which will get you super sugary high for a brief moment, then make you feel like crap the rest of the day.
So this is perfectly legal huh law makers? To make our people fat and diabetic…but smoking a joint or vaporizing cannabis isn’t?
Furthermore I would say to the jerks who want to open this shop: It’s tantamount to opening up a liquor store in a neighborhood of recovering alcoholics. You know EXACTLY what you are doing. You want to profit off of other people’s weaknesses and problems.
But all of these reasons aren’t why people should shit on this idea…the real reason is because yet again…another large corporate entity is coming into the area to tell Iowans how to think, what to eat, and how to spend their time and money.
Why not just support one of the local coffee sweet shops in town like Bumbleberry, Jitters, Cabin Coffee, Borealis, Lake Coffee and Wine, etc…
If these folks need to step up their sugary donut selection…tell them. Give them a chance to fill the need before you bring in a chain to steal your money away from the area.

Chill out, the City of Mason City in not recruiting this company, the company just stated franchises are open to purchase. This has nothing to do with the City itself. It is idiotic for anyone to think that. Peter, if you knew anything about government, you would know that and that is why you didn’t stand a chance getting elected in Clear Lake.
