NIACC women remain No. 1 in latest poll

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – The NIACC women’s basketball team remained No. 1 in the NJCAA Division II poll released Wednesday.

NIACC (14-1 overall, 3-0 in the ICCAC) placed third at the Illinois Central Holiday tournament Dec. 28-30 and topped Marshalltown 99-77 on Jan. 4 in Marshalltown.

At the Illinois Central tournament, NIACC topped No. 18 Kankakee Community College 98-64, dropped a 82-81 decision to No. 3 Illinois Central in the semifinals and topped No. 11 Kiskwaukee College 77-66 in the consolation game.

Illinois Central, which was sixth in the Dec. 18 poll, topped then No. 2 Kirkwood 65-53 in the tournament’s championship game. Illinois Central moved up three spots to third in the Wednesday poll and Kirkwood fell from second to fourth.

NIACC owns a 101-86 victory over Illinois Central on Nov. 8 at home during the Konigsmark Klassic.

NIACC returns to action Wednesday at home against Iowa Lakes (4-11, 1-1) in an ICCAC contest. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
