Mason City sex offender in jail for violating pre-trial supervision

MASON CITY – A local sex offender is in jail for violating a pre-trial condition for his release.

Shawn Duwayne Holmes, age 38, turned himself in to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday at about 10 AM. Holmes was wanted on an arrest warrant after Cerro Gordo County assistant prosecutor Rachel Ginbey filed a motion in court Tuesday to revoke his pre-trial supervision. An arrest warrant was then issued.  He is being held on $5,000 cash-only bond.

Holmes is charged with contempt of court and 2nd offense sex offender employment violation. Iowa code states that a sex offender shall not be an employee of a facility providing services for dependent adults. He awaits a February 11, 2014 jury trial.

Holmes was twice convicted in Texas for sex crimes against children. The first conviction came in 1997 on a charge of indecency with a child 13 years of age or younger. The second conviction came in 1999 on a charge of aggravated sexual assault on a child between the ages of 14 and 17.

Holmes resides at the Ashley Inn on South Federal Avenue in Mason City.
