Jadda Buckley named Freshman of the Week for third time this season

IRVING, Texas – Iowa State women’s basketball freshman Jadda Buckley was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the for the third time this season and second-consecutive, the league announced Monday.

Jadda Buckley scored a game-high 29 points to lead Iowa State in an overtime win at No. 25 Oklahoma to remain unbeaten on the season. She ended regulation a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and 5-of-5 from long range. Buckley finished regulation with 22 points.

The freshman would score seven of Iowa State’s 13 points in overtime to lead the Cyclones to their fifth-consecutive win over Oklahoma. Her key shot came with 3:23 remaining in OT when she knocked down a trey to give ISU a three-point lead. She followed it with a layup just a minute later to seal the game for ISU.

For the week, she connected on .692 of her field goal attempts, was .600 from the 3-point line and .833 from the charity stripe.
This is her third-career weekly honor and the sixth for Iowa State this season, as senior Hallie Christofferson was named Player of the Week earlier this season and Seanna Johnson earned two weekly honors. The Cyclones have captured a league-best five Freshman of the Week honors so far this season.
No Big 12 school has ever had two freshmen earn back-to-back weekly honors. Iowa State’s five Freshman of the Week awards is the most the Cyclones have had in a single season since they grabbed six in 1998.

Buckley and the No. 11 Iowa State Cyclones return to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 7:00 p.m. to take on Texas Tech in Hilton Coliseum in the Big 12 home opener.
