URBANDALE, Iowa – Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds today announced they will report over $4.1 million cash-on-hand when their campaign disclosure report is filed prior to the January 21, 2014, deadline. Additionally, the Branstad-Reynolds campaign announced it had raised over $3.4 million in 2013.
The year-end balance represents the largest ever by a candidate for governor in Iowa at the end of a reporting period. The previous record for cash-on-hand at the end of a reporting period was held by former Gov. Chet Culver who had $3,225,600 on May 19, 2010.
“We set an ambitious goal of having $4 million cash-on-hand at the end of 2013, and we’re pleased to have exceeded it by over $100,000,” said Branstad. “Lieutenant Governor Reynolds and I are humbled by Iowans’ continued confidence in our work to bring jobs and economic development to Iowa, restore our leadership position in education, increase family incomes, reduce taxes and cut the size and cost of government.”
“Though we’re pleased with the progress we’ve made to bring 137,000 jobs to Iowa and reduce Iowa’s unemployment rate to the fifth lowest in the nation at 4.4 percent, Governor Branstad and I know there is more work to do and we remain focused on building Iowa for the future through stability and predictability in governing,” said Reynolds.
The Governor Branstad Committee is starting 2014 with $1.5 million more than former Gov. Chet Culver had at this same time in 2010.
“A record-setting fundraising period demonstrates the broad support Governor Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Reynolds enjoy across Iowa, but our campaign’s focus is – and will continue to be – building the strongest grassroots campaign in the history of Iowa Republican politics,” said Branstad-Reynolds campaign manager Jake Ketzner. “With a superior organization in place, the Branstad-Reynolds campaign will work to elect Republicans up and down the ticket in November.”
The campaign will report a debt-free campaign with 94% of donations from Iowa.

I do believe the article stated that the legislatures and the Iowa Sate Board of Education were the ones that voted the program in. Nice try at blaming Branstad but it won’t work. Your own link tells you differently.
Who appoints the Department of Education’s director? Who funds the DOE? Who appoints the Board of Educational Examiners? The Governor. Branstad appointed Jason Glass a number of years ago to come in and re-vamp our educational system because it wasn’t meeting the national standards. Glass created an educational summit in Iowa to examine the problems and make recommendations. One of those recommendations was to institute standards that would be used in every school system in Iowa. Those standards are what is known today as the Common Core. Glass left Iowa a year or so ago and Branstad appointed Brad Buck as the new director. He seems like a good choice. He is an Iowan who understands what Iowans want and need. My point is that you are once again wrong LVS but I am sure you will call me a name and deny what is truth.

I don’t believe that Branstad can put any programs in the schools with out going through the legislature. Last I heard that was controlled by the Democrats
Yes I heard him say that BUT you need to look a little more into common core. It is financed by
Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and not the federal government. Didn’t you see what NIT had on the front page (I thing it was last week)? It was a copy of some of the teaching in a Northwood school. So yes common core is in North Iowa. No one, me included, wants to think that someone we have voted for would put something like common core into our schools BUT our governor allowed it. Yes he has done some good for Iowa and yes he could have done better for our kids.

You know the lesser of two evils is STILL evil. He was and is all for common core. Get your heads out people and call him out on this. Party affiliate be damned. Maybe cheap (?) gas is more important that education.
I heard it on the news last year that he signed something that will keep the federal government out of Iowa schools, what he said was common core will NOT be coming to Iowa. Nice try.
You don’t follow education in Iowa very well if you think common core is coming here. Every school in the state is implementing common core into their curriculum. It is state-mandated. That means the state is requiring it. I am sure you won’t believe that but follow this link

The link is the IOWA Department of Education’s website. It will tell you what they want you to know but the bottom line is that the Common Core is being implemented in Iowa.
Does that make you feel better trying to belittle me? Like I told the skanky girl to show me so I can read it myself because the last I heard Branstad said no. So now that I read your link I am still not sure if it is true or not but I will at least keep my eyes open on what my grandson is learning.
Tell me one thing he has done recently that has helped ALL Iowans.
Years ago he did raise the taxes on gasoline, people were very upset but now we are below the national average and we have a budget surplus.
And how is that budget surplus helping you? Did your taxes get cut? No, they did not. It amazes me that only one person came up with only one thing that the gov did. Wow.

@maybe-you got that right. Branstad is the best gov. this state has ever had and they just can’t stand it. He just keeps getting re-elected so someone must like him. I know I do.
