MADISON, WI – Highly-ranked Wisconsin has had trouble stopping the Iowa Hawkeyes from scoring – and Sunday night’s tilt was no different – but they found just enough firepower of their own to hold off a pesky Iowa team, 75-71 and remain unbeaten.
One of the big story lines behind the game was the first game back in Wisconsin for ex-Wisconsin player Jarrod Uthoff, who left the Badgers under less-than-friendly terms after coach Bo Ryan refused his initial attempts to transfer. Uthoff made his way to Iowa City to play for the Hawkeyes, but only was in tonight’s game for 16 minutes, scoring just 6 points.
Roy Devyn Marble lead Iowa with 27 points on 10-24 shooting, while Arron white chipped in 12. Wisconsin was lead by former Iowan Ben Brust with 19 points.
Iowa was able to build an 11 point lead at 12:48 left in the first half, and went into halftime leading 35-24. Wisonsin steadily chipped away in the second half and held a tenuous lead for much of the last 10 minutes and was able to hold on.
Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery was ejected from the game after he was given a double technical foul. Brust was awarded four foul shots – and they all went in.
Iowa falls to 12-3 on the season and 1-1 in the conference. The Hawkeyes next face Northwestern in Iowa City on January 9th.
