Former Floyd County Attorney found drunk in ditch, arrested

RURAL MASON CITY – A man once elected as the Floyd County Attorney was allegedly found drunk in a snowbank outside Mason City and arrested early Saturday.

According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy “came upon” an occupied motor vehicle in the ditch near the intersection of Thrush Avenue and 230th Street at about 3:10 AM on January 4, 2014.

The driver, Jesse Michael Marzen age, 35, was arrested and charged with operating while under the influence (1st offense), no insurance, failure to maintain control and open container (driver).

He was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and booked and then released. A blood alcohol test was performed on a male subject (not necessarily Marzen) by the arresting officer at 4:55 AM, the only documented test performed that day on a male. The test result was 0.100 and 0.099.

Marzen served as the Floyd County Attorney from 2006 to 2010.  He now practices law in Clarksville, Iowa.  His law license was suspended by the Iowa Bar Association in 2010 but was reinstated in February of 2012.

Way past drunk driving, it’s a textbook example of chronic alcoholism. This guy continues to spiral out of control and he continues to place others at risk and in harms way. No more excuses… conviction and court ordered treatment.

For the person who wrote: ” I personally know him and I know for a fact he wasn’t trying to be “careless” and drive drunk to cause any harm to anyone or anything!” Doesn’t it bother you to say this? It’s the line every drunk driver say after crashing and killing/hurting someone? I don’t care how many problems he has, who he is, who he was, he could be the Pope, and he still should be held to the same standards. He continues to bring trouble to his life. He has the ability to make choices in his life to determine its path. He is choosing poorly.

Looks like a law degree does not fully compensate for unresolved personal issues.

Goodbye NIT! Has nothing to do with this story, but I’ve finally reached my limit. This news blog has reached its limit as well. I’ve reached the tipping point that giving this site extra page clicks when I read (stats used to gain paid advertisers) is simply not worth supporting the garbage that is posted in here. As I have said before, this was once a great alternative news source that offered relevant content when other news sources did not have it. Now, it has become nothing more than yellow journalism. I don’t subscribe or support the globe, so I guess I’m moving to KIMT, online police reports and Twitter.

The countless barrage of slanted news stories… North End, Drunkmeir, Robin Anderson, “Cultural Crescent”, red dice… and horrible journalism along with limited stories has simply become enough. And no, I will not be back!

See ya later!

Adios Amigo!

Is this My Voice? I feel a little insulted…you never mentioned my writings as a reason for your departure. 🙁

I get that this is a bit hypocritical that an attorney got arrested for these things but people need to realize the amount of stress he is under and you don’t know what is going on in his life. So feel free to judge him and talk bad but you see people that are supposed to be the “perfect” people make a careless mistake. Yeah, I understand this is an attorney but teachers are selling drugs, having sex with students, driving drunk and breaking laws too but people don’t make that a big deal even though we put our trust in these people on a daily basis to watch our kids and to be a role model. If this happened to any other attorney or person no one would make a big deal about it. So STOP bad mouthing him.People make mistakes!! I personally know him and I know for a fact he wasn’t trying to be “careless” and drive drunk to cause any harm to anyone or anything! He is a great person and someone who follows the greatest god there is Jesus Christ our lord and savior. God forgives people for their sins so why can’t everyone else too. Please people it’s not right to be judging him. He ran for Floyd county attorney to try to impact the community in a positive way and all that people did to him was say all these allegations that are NOT true and put stress on his family and friends. Have you ever even heard his side of the story… No. Why not try to get to know him instead of judging him on things that aren’t true and his mistakes. What if every time you met someone and they judged you from what others are saying about you and mistakes you made? That’s what everyone is doing to him!! Just take a minutes and realized everything he has been through and imagine if you were in his shoes. Just give the man a break people!!!

OK, why if he believes in God and all then he should get a pass. lol

If you think HE’S under stress, how do you think all the people he prosecuted feel?

Please tell me where I said “he should get a free pass because he believes in god.” I didn’t so stop trying to say I did. I said he made a mistake. Just like both you and me do. I don’t doubt other people aren’t under stress but come on just give people a break!!

Perfect People? No I am not. But pretty damn close! Drunk and in a ditch? Really??? Stressed out??? Really??? I to am stressed!!! But you won’t see me passed out in a ditch in the winter time. So I guess I am perfect!!! Only in Mason City….bunch of losers!!!

“but people need to realize the amount of stress he is under and you don’t know what is going on in his life.”

Do you suppose he cared what went on in the lives of people he prosecuted?

Exacta Mundo! I’m so glad there are finally others on here carrying the torch of liberty and intelligence!! Makes my job easier, and allows me time to do other things! Bravissimo to you Iowa Sucks, and L.G. and any of the others who are calling a SPADE A SPADE~!

Hypocrisy at it’s finest. Watch him get special treatment because he used to one of them.

It’s safe to say that this guy’s life is out of control and is only getting worse. I doubt he will get the “treatment” that he’s probably going to die waiting for.

I like how you think I.S. Keeping the torch lit. Staying on their ass, until justice and equal treatment prevails.

This guy just keeps going farther and farther down hill.

Booked and Released? wow
Good thing he didn’t hit a deer!
