Former Floyd County Attorney found drunk in ditch, arrested

RURAL MASON CITY – A man once elected as the Floyd County Attorney was allegedly found drunk in a snowbank outside Mason City and arrested early Saturday.

According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy “came upon” an occupied motor vehicle in the ditch near the intersection of Thrush Avenue and 230th Street at about 3:10 AM on January 4, 2014.

The driver, Jesse Michael Marzen age, 35, was arrested and charged with operating while under the influence (1st offense), no insurance, failure to maintain control and open container (driver).

He was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and booked and then released. A blood alcohol test was performed on a male subject (not necessarily Marzen) by the arresting officer at 4:55 AM, the only documented test performed that day on a male. The test result was 0.100 and 0.099.

Marzen served as the Floyd County Attorney from 2006 to 2010.  He now practices law in Clarksville, Iowa.  His law license was suspended by the Iowa Bar Association in 2010 but was reinstated in February of 2012.
