Clear Lake organization offers protection from cold for outdoor dogs during cold snap

CLEAR LAKE – Five Dachshunds were taken to Patriots for Pets in Clear Lake on Saturday, after being left outside and without food.

A concerned citizen approached the people who had the dogs and were told that the dogs had been abandoned by their grandson.  The people didn’t want the dogs and couldn’t afford to feed them.  The person then was able to make arrangements with Patriots for Pets, an organization dedicated to helping animals find homes, to take the dogs in.

“Without this person’s concern for these five animals they would surely not have survived the next few days. It’s awesome when people step up and do what is right for the animals,” said Patriots for Pets via social media.

“They are all a little scared and confused, but amazingly they are coming around.  We have wormed them, given them their shots and given them food,”  Patriots continued.  They have names: Lady, July, Dumont, Margo and Mel.

Patriots for Pets is seeking homes for all five dogs.

“It will be truly be a happy new year for these five kids” if a home is found.

Due to the extreme cold temps, Patriots for Pets is offering shelter for dogs whose owners cannot provide it.

Patriots for Pets said Sunday that “if there is anyone who has ‘outdoor only dogs’ that absolutely has no way to protect them in the next three days with the upcoming possible -60 wind chill temperatures – please contact us at the shelter tomorrow after about 11:00 a.m. Within the constraints of the space we have available – we will do what we can to help house those animals for the cold snap coming our way.”

Call the shelter at 641-357-8050 after 11:00 a.m. today (Sunday).

Patriots for Pets mission is to help save dogs and cats who, for whatever reason, have ended up homeless. It is our goal to evaluate the animals and get them to the right “forever” home. We will be working with various U.S. Veteran organizations to not only work with the animals but also to provide companion animals to those warriors who would benefit from having a faithful companion.
