Afghan commandos kill insurgent

PARWAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan –Afghan National Security Forces killed one insurgent and arrested three others during a clearing operation in Nangarhar province’s Khogyani district Dec. 20.

Commandos from 1st Special Operations Kandak were conducting the operation in Chowni village when they received small-arms fire from insurgent fighters. The commandos immediately returned fire, killing one of the insurgents.

The commandos also detained three suspected insurgents and discovered a weapons cache of pistols, Afghan National Army uniforms and detailed profiles of ANA soldiers.

Brig. Gen. Faizal Ahmed Sherzaid, provincial police chief, expressed his support of the Commando’s operations throughout the province to clear the area of insurgent strongholds stating that these operations allow for the future installment of Afghan Local Police.

The three suspects are in custody of the district’s National Directorate of Security officials.
