IOWA CITY – Former 1st Team All-Big Ten University of Iowa football player Derrell Johnson-Koulianos or “DJK”, who was dismissed from the Hawkeye football team in 2010, ripped Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa football program in a series of scathing Tweets Tuesday.
Johnson-Koulianos was arrested in 2010 while a member of the Iowa football team and was known as a big playmaker, holding several team records. The Daily Iowan called him the most “prolific wide receiver in Iowa history.” It was alleged that “DJK” ran a “drug house” but the charges didn’t stick; he later plead guilty to possession of marijuana. He also tested positive for drugs in his body. Coach Ferentz said after DJK’s arrest that “He’ll not play again here.”
On Tuesday, DJK promised a book that will chronicle his time as a Hawkeye. He said Tuesday that “No1 likes me talking about this now but a big book offer came. Plus every day a question about “what happened?” gets asked. There’s so much shit that hasn’t been revealed about what goes on and I experienced. This book gonna open some eyes.”
DJK said that he “Got involved in that bad stuff because I followed 2 leaders on the team who encouraged me to try it. Two guys the coaches chose as ‘leaders.'”
Trying not to sound bitter, DJK said that he was not “blaming anybody” for his fall from glory as a Hawkeye. “I take ownership for how it went down 100%. But it’s only fair people know all the truth. My issue is I’m a good person and they tried to demonize my character.”
“I knew after my first conversation with KF at Iowa it wasn’t … Going to be a good relationship,” DJK said of his relationship with Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, one of the highest paid coaches in the country. He says coach Ferentz said to him “Your names Derrell not DJK. And you’re not bigger than the program.”
DJK said student athletes should stay away from the University of Iowa.
“Student-Athletes should not attend IA under KF,” DJK advised.
He seemed to place some blame on coach Ferentz for his drug arrest.
“Two months ago I get an anonymous letter from someone who says KF worked with the ICPD on getting a ‘bust'” … “KF told my parents two weeks b4 arrest after OSU ’10 “Tell Derrell I have one more thing in my pocket for him.” My confused parents told me.
“People want me to move on. I am once for all. Right after this publication. The money, the drugs the dictatorship of a program. All of it will be in the book,” DJK promised. The book was said to be slated for release in summer of 2014.
Iowa is set to take on SEC power Louisiana State in the Outback bowl on January 1st, 2014.

Former Iowa punter Ryan Donahue said Tuesday that “I would not have gone as far as I did in fb if I hadn’t gone to Iowa. Every program has it’s quirks. Nature of the business.”
He also seemed to back up a story told by DJK where coach Ferentz made DJK were a garbage can on his head during a pracgice as a form of punishment (see Tweet above) and then a picture was taken of DJK wearing the trash can.
“Actually, that was really funny. Pretty sure we hung that picture up somewhere, ” Donahue tweeted. “Punishments were handed down like pieces of gum KF chewed.”
