AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior forward Georges Niang has been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 24 points in Iowa State’s win against Iowa last week.

Niang, who tallied a career-high for the second game in a row, hit 8-of-15 shots from the floor, including what proved to be the game-winning basket on a reverse layup with 18 seconds remaining. He also hit 8-of-10 from the free-throw line and grabbed two rebounds with five assists, one blocked shot and two steals.

Niang is the fourth Cyclone to earn player of the week honors, joining Melvin Ejim, Dustin Hogue and Naz Long. DeAndre Kane has twice been named the league’s newcomer of the week, giving Iowa State six honors this season. No other team has more than three honors.
