No. 17 Iowa State women handle no. 21 Iowa, 83-70

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesAMES – The No. 17 Iowa State women’s basketball team (9-0, 0-0 Big 12) used a 24-7 first-half run to get out to a 30-15 lead over the No. 21 Iowa Hawkeyes (10-2, 0-0 Big Ten). Brynn Williamson hit five three-pointers in the first stanza, pacing the Cyclone effort.

With just under 16 minutes remaining in the first half, Iowa Stated trailed Iowa 8-6. The Cyclones then scored seven unanswered points, highlighted by back-to-back treys from Williamson. The Cyclones took an 11-point, holding the Hawkeyes to just one field goal over the next 12 minutes and 58 seconds. Iowa State went into halftime leading 41-28.

The Cyclone women came out firing in the second half and got off to a quick 11-4 run, stretching the lead to a game-high 20 points. Hallie Christofferson scored 18 points while grabbing 14 rebounds to notch her third double-double of the season and the 14th of her career. Seanna Johnson also worked her way to her fourth double-figure rebounding effort, grabbing 15 boards to go with seven points. Jadda Buckley added 19 points of her own, marking a career high for the freshman.

Brynn Williamson scored a career-high 21 points on 5-12 shooting from behind the arc, while adding five rebounds. The Kansas City, Mo., native drilled five three-pointers in the first half, four of which coming during a critical 24-7 Cyclone run.

The Cyclones are 9-0 at home against the Hawkeyes under head coach Bill Fennelly.
