Six Cyclones named All-Big 12 by coaches

AMES – The Big 12 Football Coaches selected their All-Big 12 teams this afternoon, and six Cyclones were awarded postseason honors for their performances on the field in 2013.

Senior linebacker Jeremiah George was an All-Big 12 First-Team selection, while junior tight end E.J. Bibbs, senior safety Jacques Washington and senior punter Kirby Van Der Kamp were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team.

Juniors Tom Farniok (center) and Cory Morrissey (defensive end) both earned honorable mention accolades.

A native of Clearwater, Fla., George capped off his outstanding Cyclone career in 2013 by leading the Big 12 and ranking fourth nationally in tackles at 11.1. George, who was ISU’s leader in sacks (3.5), tackles for loss (12.0), forced fumbles (3) and interceptions (2), registered double digits in tackles in nine of 12 games during the year.

Bibbs, who hails from Chicago, Ill., became one of ISU’s most dangerous targets in 2013, catching 39 passes for 462 yards. His 39 receptions ranks second on ISU’s single-season list for tight ends and was the only Cyclone to record multiple catches in all 12 games.

Washington, a native of Owasso, Okla., was second in the Big 12 in tackles per game at 9.9. Washington, who picked off a pair of passes in ISU’s come-from-behind win at West Virginia in the season finale, ended his career with 311 tackles ranking 15th all-time in school history.

Van Der Kamp is one of the greatest kickers in ISU history, ending his brilliant career with a 42.4 career punting average, the second-best clip in school history and the 21st-best average in NCAA history. The West Des Moines, Iowa native tallied 17, 50-yarders and had 27 kicks downed inside the 20-yard line this past season.

Farniok ended his third season as one of ISU’s leaders on the offensive line. The Sioux Falls, S.D., native, who has 35 career starts at center, helped the Cyclones record over 500 yards of total offense in their final two games.

Morrissey, who hails from Ames, was one of ISU’s most consistent defensive players in his first season as a starter. Morrissey was second on the team in tackles for loss (6.5) and led all Cyclone down linemen in tackles with 52. His three fumble recoveries tied for third in the Big 12.
