No. 2 NIACC women face No. 1 Kirkwood on Saturday

The No. 2 (NJCAA Division II) NIACC women’s basketball team hosts top-ranked Kirkwood at 1 p.m. Saturday in the NIACC gym.

NIACC, which was No. 3 in last week’s poll, enters Saturday’s contest 10-0 overall and 1-0 in the ICCAC. The Lady Trojans have won 15 straight regular season games.

Kirkwood has won 28 straight games against NIACC. The last win by the Lady Trojans was a 59-49 victory on Feb. 16, 2000.

Kirkwood, which was No. 2 in last week’s poll, is 10-1 overall and 1-0 in the ICCAC. The Eagles topped No. 14 Iowa Central 85-78 on Tuesday in their league opener.

Sophomore Chelsey Jacox (Plymouth, Minn.) averages 22.5 points per game to lead the Lady Trojans. Freshman Cortni Rush (Mason City, Ia.) averages 18.4 points per game.

NIACC averages 105.6 points per game, which leads all NJCAA Division II teams. The Lady Trojans also lead the nation with 123 3-point goals and lead the nation in assists per game (23.3).

The Lady Trojans are tied for second among NJCAA Division II teams with 180 steals and rank fifth in free-throw percentage (71.1 percent).

NIACC owns wins this season over No. 6 Illinois Central (101-86) and No. 11 Kansas City (Kansas) Community College 91-87.

Sophomore Chelsey Jacox (Plymouth, Minn.) averages 22.5 points per game (2nd in ICCAC). Freshman Cortni Rush (Mason City, Ia.) averages 18.4 points per game (3rd in ICCAC) and sophomore Lateeka Thompson (Burnsville, Minn.) averages 14.2 points per game (10th in ICCAC).

Kirkwood is led by sophomore guard Danielle Wollfolk, who averages 13.6 points per game (12th in ICCAC). Freshman Hanna Haynes averages 7.3 rebounds per game (8th in ICCAC) to lead the Eagles.
