MASON CITY – The NIACC women’s basketball team moved to No. 2 in the NJCAA Division II poll released Wednesday.
NIACC (10-0 overall, 1-0 in the ICCAC) was ranked No. 3 in last week’s poll. The Lady Trojans topped the Grand View Junior Varsity 117-61 in their lone game last week.
Sophomore Chelsey Jacox (Plymouth, Minn.) averages 22.5 points per game to lead the Lady Trojans. Freshman Cortni Rush (Mason City, Ia.) averages 18.4 points per game.
Kirkwood (9-1 overall, 1-0 in the ICCAC) is the new No. 1 team in this week’s poll. Louisburg College, which was No. 1 last week, fell out of this week’s rankings with a pair of losses.
NIACC hosts Kirkwood at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
NIACC averages 105.6 points per game, which leads all NJCAA Division II teams. The Lady Trojans also lead the nation with 123 3-point goals and lead the nation in assists per game (23.3).
The Lady Trojans are tied for second among NJCAA Division II teams with 180 steals and rank fifth in free-throw percentage (71.1 percent).
NIACC, which has won 15 straight regular season games, owns wins this season over No. 6 Illinois Central (101-86) and No. 11 Kansas City (Kansas) Community College 91-87.
