MASON CITY – The NIACC women’s basketball team is ranked No. 3 in the second NJCAA Division II poll of the season.
NIACC (9-0 overall) was not ranked in the preseason poll.
Louisburg College (North Carolina) is ranked No. 1 after being No. 14 in the preseason poll. The Hurricanes are 8-0.
Kirkwood Community College (7-1) is ranked No. 2 and Iowa Central (7-1) is ranked No. 17.
NIACC, which has won 14 straight regular season games, averages 104.3 points per game, which leads all NJCAA Division II teams. The Lady Trojans also lead the nation with 109 3-point goals and assists per game (22.8).
NIACC owns wins over No. 7 Illinois Central (101-86) on Nov. 8. Illinois Central was ranked No. 2 at the time.
The Lady Trojans also topped then No. 11 DMACC 97-68 on Nov. 20 and downed No. 15 Kansas City (Kansas) Community College 91-87 on Nov. 22.
NIACC plays at the Grand View College junior varsity in Des Moines on Thursday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
NIACC hosts No. 2 Kirkwood on Dec. 14 in the NIACC gym.
