Police nab wanted man Saturday in Mason City

MASON CITY – Sheriffs and local police worked together to bring another wanted man into custody this weekend.

Saturday afternoon, Mason City police and Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s deputies converged upon 104 North Jefferson Avenue, searching for a man with a warrant issued for his arrest.  Authorities were looking for Oliver Jay Morehouse, age 22, who lives at the address.

Records show that Morehouse had a warrant issued for his arrest by Judge Annette Boehlje on November 26th after Morehouse failed to appear at the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse for a pre-trial conference that day.  Morehouse had earlier plead not guilty to felony D second degree theft and was to appear at the courthouse.  Also in that case, Morehouse failed to appear for an arraignment in August and a warrant for his arrest had been issued at that time as well.  He was on the run for 5 days that time.

Morehouse had another warrant out for his arrest, as well.  Judge Boehlje had placed Morehouse on probation  on October 31st after giving him a deferred judgement in a domestic abuse case.  For committing domestic abuse, Morehouse got to walk free from the courthouse that day, and pay just $161.50 in court costs.  However, on November 26th, Boehle issued a second warrant for his arrest to face possible probation revocation.

Mason City police asked county deputies to assist in the apprehension of Morehouse Saturday, as officers from both law enforcement agencies arrived at Morehouse’s home at about 2:00 PM and brought him into custody.

Morehouse is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $5,000 cash-only bond.  He faces a probation revocation hearing in the domestic assault case on December 31st.  His trial in the second degree theft case was continued an no trial date has been set.

Morehouse this year also plead guilty to an amended charge of fifth degree theft after fleeing Wal-Mart with stolen merhchandise.
