Paradise Island, Bahamas – The Iowa men’s basketball team routed UTEP 89-53 in a semifinal game Friday in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.
Iowa improves to 7-0 for the first time since the 2000-01 season. That team started 9-0 to begin the season.
Iowa will play Villanova for the Battle 4 Atlantis championship Saturday at approximately 8:30 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on NBC Sports Network.
Iowa matched a season high with nine 3-pointers, making 56 percent of its attempts (9-of-16).
Jarrod Uthoff grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, reaching double-digit rebounds for the second time this season (11 vs. Maryland-Eastern Shore).
Eleven Hawkeyes scored two points or more tonight, led by junior Aaron White’s 17 points (5-6 FG, 7-7 FT). Peter Jok and Zach McCabe each netted 14 points, while Melsahn Basabe contributed 10.
Iowa outrebounded UTEP by 22 (46-24). The Hawkeyes limited the Miners to only six offensive rebounds. Iowa’s bench scored 48 points.
The Hawkeyes assisted on 22 of 31 field goals tonight. Mike Gesell tied a season high with seven assists, while Roy Devyn Marble set a season best with seven helpers.
