Also a reminder that NIACC winter sports media day is set for Wednesday, Oct. 16 in the NIACC gym. The men’s basketball team will be available for interviews and photos at 2:30 to 3 p.m. The wrestling team will be available from 3 to 3:30 p.m. and the women’s basketball team will be available from 3:30 to 4 p.m.

What’s next: The NIACC cross country teams return to action at the NJCAA Region XI meet on Oct. 26 in Fort Dodge.

Last time out: The No. 22 NIACC men placed second at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Invitational with 66 points. NIACC was led by sophomore John-Ross Tangi (Brandtford, Ontario), who was 11th in the 8K race in a time of 26:37.

In the women’s race at St. Ambrose, freshman Hannah Palmeter (Bessemer, Mich.) recorded the second-fastest 5-kilometer time in NIACC women’s history with her ninth-place finish in a time of 19:10.

Palmeter’s time moved her past Kalyn Kruckenberg for second on the all-time school list. Kruckenberg clocked a 19:19 in the 2010 season. The all-time 5K record holder is Anna Buenneke, who ran 18:15 in 2011.

The NIACC women placed fifth at Saturday’s meet with 174 points.


What’s next: The NIACC men’s soccer team (3-8 overall, 2-6 in the ICCAC) returns to action Tuesday in a conference match at Marshalltown (11-3-1, 7-2). Match time is set for 4 p.m.

Marshalltown topped NIACC 2-1 in their match in Mason City on Sept. 21.

Last time out: NIACC dropped a 3-0 decision to Iowa Central at home on Saturday.

Leading the way: Freshman Matthew Stewart (Lake Worth, Fla.) leads NIACC with four goals … Sophomore Leo Driscoll (Huddersfield, UK) has two goals and four assists … Sophomore Tim Roberts (Sydney, Australia) and sophomore Nako Omot (Worthington, Minn.) both have two goals.


What’s next: The NIACC volleyball team (14-14 overall, 1-6 in the ICCAC) plays at No. 4 Kirkwood (27-6, 7-1) on Wednesday. Match time is set for 6:30 p.m.

Last time out: The Lady Trojans stopped the Waldorf College junior varsity 3-0 last Wednesday on their Think Pink night. Freshman Caitlyn Hanig (Sheffield, Ia.) led the way with seven kills.

Leading the way: Freshman Jessica Balek (Manly, Ia.) leads the team with 205 kills and 90 blocks … Freshman Heather Danburg (Mason City, Ia.) has 376 assists … Freshman Carly Ouverson (Fertile, Ia.) has 40 ace serves … Freshman Hallie Erdahl (Lake Mills, Ia.) has 299 digs.
