ISU’s Hahn Ties Record With 15th Career Big 12 Award

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesAMES, Iowa – For a record-tying 15th time in her distinguished Iowa State career, Kristen Hahn has been named Big 12 Defensive Player of Week the conference announced Monday. She now shares the career weekly awards record with the Iowa State libero that preceded her, Ashley Mass (2007-10).

Hahn was key again for the Cyclones (10-5 overall, 4-1 Big 12) during their two 3-0 sweeps last week. Against Kansas State, Hahn posted her 41st career 20+ dig match. The match against the Wildcats was a defensive one as Hahn was one of four Cyclones to post at least 10 digs in the match.

In ISU’s win over West Virginia, Hahn’s record-streak of 54-straight matches with at least 10 digs was in danger of being snapped after only recording two digs in the first set. However, Hahn was able to get more involved with the match in the final two sets, posting nine digs in the second set and eight in the third to help the Cyclones bring home the win over WVU.

Hahn, a two-time All-American and the two-time defending Big 12 Libero of the Year, has had one of best seasons by a defensive player in Iowa State history. Hahn leads the Big 12 and ranks fourth nationally averaging 5.79 digs per set. She has a total of 307 digs on the season.

Iowa State has a bye on Wednesday, before returning to the court on Saturday at No. 3 Texas. The match begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on FSN.
