Volleyball: Iowa State sweeps Kansas State, 3-0

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesAMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball team did it with defense Wednesday as the Cyclones swept Kansas State 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-18) in Hilton Coliseum. The win improved Iowa State to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the Big 12. K-State fell to 13-4 overall and 1-3 in Big 12 play.

After a tight first set, Iowa State was able to get out to an early lead in the second set, but Kansas State was able to battle back to make it a 13-11 ISU advantage.

The Cyclones then went on a 6-0 run powered by the serving of Morgan Kuhrt. Her tough serving allowed ISU opportunities to get on the attack and she herself even contributed two kills during the run.

Coming in for a sub-par Victoria Hurtt in the second set, Morgan Kuhrt gave Iowa State an added dimension to the attack from both the front and the back and another reliable defensive player to go with it. Her tough serving forced the Wildcats out-of-system.

Her night was solid as the match was nearing its end, but Kuhrt ended it with a bang. She recorded three consecutive Iowa State points on kills to bring the match to its final point before a KSU hitting error ended it.

Kuhrt ended the night with a career-high 10 kills, six coming in the third set, at a .444 hitting percentage. Coming into the match, Kuhrt was hitting .051 for the season. She also recorded two digs and the first two block assists of her Iowa State career.
