NIACC volleyball team sweeps Waldorf JV, 3-0

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – The NIACC volleyball team swept the Waldorf College junior varsity 3-0 Wednesday night as part of Think Pink Night in the NIACC gym.

NIACC won 25-23, 25-22, 25-19.

All of the proceeds from Wednesday’s match go to Mercy Center for Breast Health at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

“It’s always a special night to be able to raise money for breast cancer and mammograms,” NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. “And the last two years we’ve been able to keep the money locally instead of nationally.

“This year, we brought back the Waldorf team, which is a local team, and they were able to do some fund raising. So that was exciting.”

NIACC (14-14 overall) had four players with six kills in Wednesday’s match. Leading the way in the kill department were sophomores Lexy Nodtvedt (Manly, Ia.) and Melissa Bisbee (Stacyville, Ia.) and freshmen Jessica Balek (Manly, Ia.) and Caitlyn Hanig (Sheffield, Ia.)

Bisbee had eight digs and two ace serves.

Also for NIACC, freshman Hallie Erdahl (Lake Mills, Ia,) had seven digs and freshman Carly Ouverson (Fertile, Ia.) had six digs, 19 assists and five ace serves. Hanig and sophomore LaShae Brooks (Nett Lake, Minn.) each had four blocks and Nodtvedt had three blocks.

Freshman Heather Danburg (Mason City, Ia.) had seven assists.

NIACC returns to action Monday in an ICCAC contest at Ellsworth Community College.
