Otay Mesa, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Otay Mesa port of entry arrested a woman yesterday after discovering heroin hidden inside a lunch bag located in the trunk of her car.

On Monday, September 23rd, at about 5 p.m., a CBP officer encountered an 18-year-old U.S. citizen, and her two passengers, driving a 1998 Toyota Camry. During the inspection, the officer discovered a vacuum-sealed package of an unknown substance inside a lunch bag stored in the trunk of the vehicle. The vehicle and occupants were escorted for further examination.

CBP officers inspected the substance, which field tested positive for heroin, The heroin has an estimated street value of $32,200.

The driver, a resident of Spring Valley, CA, was turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) agents for further processing and was later transported to the Metropolitan Correctional Center where she currently awaits arraignment. The passengers were released.

CBP seized the vehicle.
