MASON CITY – The NIACC volleyball team won a pair of matches on Sunday in the NIACC gym.
NIACC topped the Gustavus Adolphus junior varsity 25-21, 25-16, 25-23 and stopped Riverland Community College 25-21, 25-22, 25-12.
“We decided that we weren’t going to go four games,” NIACC sophomore Melissa Bisbee (Stacyville, Ia.) said of the final 13-point, Game 4 victory over Riverland. “We didn’t want to make it a close one again. We were ready to go and played as a team.”
Freshman Caitlyn Hanig (Sheffield, Ia.) led NIACC with 17 kills, four blocks and five ace serves in the two nonconference matches. Freshman Brianna Haugen (Clear Lake, Ia.) was next in line with 12 kills and sophomore Lexy Nodtvedt (Manly, Ia.) had 10 kills.
Freshman Jessica Balek (Manly, Ia.) and Bisbee both had nine kills.
Also for NIACC Sunday, freshman Heather Danburg (Mason City, Ia.) had 29 assists and freshman Grace Olmstead (Waterloo, Ia.) had 18 digs.
NIACC (11-9 overall) returns to action Tuesday at Iowa Lakes.
