AMES, Iowa – Iowa controlled the game on the ground, outgaining Iowa State 218-59 behind 145 yards from Mark Weisman, en route to a 27-21 win in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series showdown at Jack Trice Stadium in front of a sellout crowd of 56,800. Iowa improves to 2-1, while Iowa State falls to 0-2 this season.

Iowa State came within six points following Sam Richardson’s connection with Quenton Bundrage on a 67-yard catch and run touchdown with 5:28 left in the third quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, Iowa’s Jordan Cotton returned it to the Iowa 40 and the Hawkeyes moved down the field in 2:18 and got a touchdown on Jake Rudock’s pass to Jacob Hillyer, extending Iowa’s lead to 20-7.

The Cyclones were eventually able to trim the Hawkeye lead to 27-21 behind Bundrage’s second and third touchdowns, but the rally fell short.
