NIACC volleyball falls to No. 12 Southeastern, 3-0

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 12 Southeastern Wednesday night in the NIACC gym.

Southeastern won 25-19, 25-17, 25-19.

“They are known to be a really good team,” NIACC freshman Carly Ouverson said. “We came out knowing that. They have a really good hitter (Mattie Gray) and we knew we had to stop her. We came out and played our game. We knew if we did that we could stick right with them.”

Gray, a freshman who prepped at Waverly-Shell Rock, led the Blackhawks with 13 kills.

NIACC (7-5 overall, 0-3 in the ICCAC) was led by freshman Jessica Balek (Manly, Ia.) with eight kills. Sophomore Lexy Nodtvedt (Manly, Ia.) was next in line with five kills and Ouverson (Fertile, Ia.) had four kills.

Ouverson also had seven assists and three ace serves.

Also for NIACC, freshman Heather Danburg (Mason City, Ia.) had 13 assists and six digs. Freshman Hallie Erdahl (Lake Mills, Ia.) had 15 digs and freshman Grace Olmstead (Waterloo, Ia.) had eight digs.

NIACC (7-5 overall, 0-3 in the ICCAC) returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Marshalltown Community College tournament.

Ouverson said the Lady Trojans can take a lot of positives from Wednesday’s match with Southeastern (17-2, 3-0).

“We played well,” she said. “We’re not really hanging our heads. Losing is losing but we played well.”
