JOWZJAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan Local Police helped reclaim a checkpoint from Taliban insurgents Sept. 6 in Jowzjan province’s Darzab district.
An unknown number of insurgents earlier that day overran the checkpoint and assumed control. The Taliban triumph was short-lived, however, as Afghan Local Police, Afghan National Police and Afghan National Army from Darzab massed a successful counter attack just a few hours later.
The combined force engaged the insurgents, causing them to immediately flee. There were no reports of civilian casualties or structural damage from the operation.
The resiliency of the Afghan Local Police is remarkable, given that they are engaged up to three times more often than Afghan National Police.
