Homecoming Theme: “Fields of Fun”

North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) is bringing back a popular tradition from the past: Homecoming.

Homecoming Week will be September 16-21, 2013 and will include a variety of fun activities for students throughout the week. The Homecoming theme is “Fields of Fun,” which culminates with a community celebration at the NIACC campus on Saturday Sept. 21.

“We invite everyone to come out and enjoy this day of free activities and entertainment,” said Terri Ewers, Dean of Students at NIACC. “This is a perfect chance for people to come visit the beautiful NIACC campus, see some of the progress taking place and enjoy a free day of activities.”

On Saturday Sept. 21, the day begins with a special run, called “Robert’s Run,” which is in memory of Robert Davis, a former NIACC instructor and board member.

“Robert was always proud of his daily four-mile run, so we honor him that day with a four mile run,” said NIACC Athletic Director Dan Mason. For those unable to run four miles, a shorter walk is also offered.

NIACC Homecoming activities include:

9:00 a.m.         Robert’s Run (check in begins at 7:45)

10:00 a.m.       Athletic teams (inter-squad scrimmages)

Hayrack rides: campus and farm tours

Kids Bounce houses

Balloon artists

Sand Art

11:30 a.m.       Free lunch

Noon               Magician Ran’D Shine (Activity Center)

1:00 p.m.         Homecoming Main Event: NIACC Soccer vs Marshalltown

Soccer is like watching paint dry.

Nothing wrong with this. I am glad to see something like this happening. This is what happens when you get a new president. I guess personally I would rather see a football game instead of soccer, but I am kind of old school and I know it. Most country’s (other than the U.S.) call soccer football anyway.

Ever watched a soccer match?…zzz!

@Anonymous-I have watched a soccer match. Many of them when I was in Mexico for a couple of years. But to me it is kind of like hockey, I watch it but don’t understand it very well. We didn’t grow up with it like football. I said it was a personal preference. I know a lot of people enjoy it.

This is great news!! Homecoming is always a blast!!!

balloon animals, sand art, kids bounce houses, magician, hayrack rides – almost forgot we were dealing with a college . . .

A soccer match? Really? How can you have Homecoming without a football game?

The sport doesn’t matter…. at least they are returning to a tradition that is such a great experience for college kids…. A hundred years ago when I was in college in Missouri, I was a candidate for Homecoming Queen, that was a lot of fun. Kids need to be able to celebrate and enjoy all the traditions college has to offer… Reality will kick in as soon as they graduate….

It would seem kids have a restraining order on reality these days.
