WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that two Iowa airports will receive a total of $7,356,508 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for various construction and rehabilitation projects. Harkin is a senior member of the Appropriations subcommittee that funds these initiatives.
“Continuing to make improvements to local airports is important to the economic health of communities, where the availability of a nearby airport is a valuable asset to attract new businesses,” said Harkin. “This funding will help keep Iowa airports in compliance with important FAA standards and safe for travelers. I congratulate each airport on this competitive funding and I look forward to the improvements it will generate.”
Details of the funding below:
Cedar Rapids Airport Commission – $5,171,937 to construct a new taxiway and connect it to the terminal entrance.
Washington Municipal Airport – $2,184,571 for runway rehabilitations and to allow for the removal of a displaced threshold to comply with runway safety area and runway protection zone standards. This is the third and final phase of the project.
