NIACC volleyball opens home season tonight

MASON CITY – The NIACC volleyball team opens its home season at 7 p.m. tonight against Northeast Community College.

NIACC (4-0) opened its season with four wins at the St. Cloud Technical and Community College tournament last weekend. The Lady Trojans topped Dakota County Technical College (25-14, 25-13, 25-18) and St. Cloud Tech (25-22, 21-25, 15-25, 25-15, 13) on Aug. 23. They topped Mesabi Range Community/Technical College 25-20, 17-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-11 and Dakota County 25-10, 25-15, 25-11 on Aug. 24.

Sophomore Melissa Bisbee (Stacyville, Ia.) leads NIACC with 34 kills. Lexy Nodtvedt (Manly, Ia.) is next in line with 32 kills and freshman Jessica Balek (Manly, Ia.) has 29 kills.

Freshman Carly Ouverson (Fertile, Ia.) leads NIACC with 52 assists. Freshman Heather Danburg (Mason City, Ia.) has tallied 46 assists.

ON NORTHEAST: Volleyball returns to Northeast CC after a 10-year absence.
The Hawks (5-0) opened their season with four wins at the Southeast CC (Nebraska) tournament Aug. 23-24.
The Hawks beat McCook CC (3-0), Southeast CC (3-1), Marshalltown CC (3-2) and Cloud County CC (3-1).
The Hawks also beat McCook CC 25-9, 25-23, 25-18 in their home opener Tuesday night. Nazya Thies led the Hawks with 20 kills. Maggie Earney had 33 assists.
