Border patrol apprehends man wanted for aggravated sexual assault of a child

Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge apprehended a man on an active arrest warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child from Brownsville, Texas.

On Sunday, August 11, CBP officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge encountered a man later identified as a wanted fugitive. At primary, a query by a CBP officer resulted in a referral of a man identified as Esteban Lamas, 24, a United States citizen who resides in Brownsville, Texas for a secondary examination. A CBP officer’s secondary checks revealed a possible an active arrest warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child for Esteban Lamas. CBP officers confirmed the active warrant for Lamas with pending charges related to a case from the Cameron Country Sherriff’s Office in Olmito, Texas for aggravated sexual assault of a child. CBP officers arrested Esteban Lamas and subsequently turned him over to the custody of the Cameron Country Sherriff’s Office. Esteban Lamas was transported to the Carrizales/Rucker detention center and will face pending charges.

“A CBP officer’s primary checks identified Esteban Lamas as a wanted fugitive. This wanted person will face pending charges in Cameron County in large part due to the outstanding vigilance by our officers on the frontlines of our nation’s borders,” said Michael Freeman, CBP port director, Brownsville Port of Entry.
