WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Harkin (D-IA) on Friday announced that the city of Floris and the University of Northern Iowa will receive $88,500 in grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Economic Development Grant Program to fund local initiatives.
“Supporting community projects is essential for economic growth in rural Iowa,” said Harkin. “With these funds, new projects and programs will stimulate economic growth and opportunities in rural areas. I congratulate both recipients on being awarded this competitive funding and look forward to the improvements it will generate.”
Details of the funding below:
The City of Floris: $16,500 to remove and replace the current cement floor of the fire station as well as re-cement the area outside of the station.
The University of Northern Iowa: $72,000 to develop an education and outreach campaign to assist in the reduction of construction and demolition waste being disposed of in Iowa landfills.
