AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men’s basketball team will open play at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic against George Mason on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 4:30 p.m. (CT) on ESPNU. The tournament will be held at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, Dec. 22, 23 and 25.
The field features the Cyclones and Patriots along with Akron, Boise State, Hawaii, Oregon State, St. Mary’s (Calif.) and South Carolina.
George Mason went 22-16 last season and played in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). The Patriots return leading scorer Sherrod Wright, who averaged 16.6 points per game.
The Cyclones will face either Oregon State (14-18) or Akron (26-7) in the second game, which will be played Dec. 23 at 4 p.m.
