WASHINGTON, June 11 (UPI) — The Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives will consider a bill banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy next week, an aide confirmed.

Doug Heye, deputy chief of staff to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., confirmed to Roll Call Monday that the House was target to consider the legislation that would ban all abortions after 20 weeks, the point at which some medical professionals said a fetus could begin feeling pain.

The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., was in the House Judiciary Committee for markup and is backed by the National Right to Life Committee.

Heye also told Roll Call that the bill would be brought to the floor under a rule designed to allow for passage on a simple majority.

The effort to proceed with the bill comes as outside groups pressure lawmakers after Pennsylvania abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell recently was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder. Among other things, he was found to have killed infants after they had been born.

“The trial of Kermit Gosnell exposed late abortions for what they really are: relocated infanticide,” Franks said recently in a statement. “I pray we use this as a ‘teachable moment,’ in the words of President Obama, and can agree that, at the very least, we are better than dismembering babies who can feel every excruciating moment.”

Before the committee markup session, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue issued a statement saying, “Where is the House leadership? With such an important margin of women voting against the conservative’s out-of-touch agenda in the last election, Speaker [John] Boehner should not be looking for more opportunities to alienate women voters.”

What bothers me is when a person cares more about their personal urges than the consequences and then just tries to justify it with a legal abortion because they “can’t” afford it or in all reality just don’t want to. My mother raised me by herself with NOTHING. Personally, I have the utmost repect that she sacrificed everything for me. Ya, my mother was very young and made the same mistake. But she had the courage to make the ultimate sacrifice for someone other than herself. I guess I wouldn’t expect everyone to be like her because most women are no where near that strong. They only care about themselves and not having too difficult of a time in life. Nancy could have have had her child and given it up for adoption. There’s no shame in that. Too bad she didn’t even have that much courage.

When humanity looses it’s humanity…then what do we have left to care about? Sorry, I value life. I’m not giving up on caring. If you are, I’m sad for your soul because it’s obviously….EMPTY.

“What if YOUR mother would have done the same with you?”

Please, My Voice, do you think we would have even cared if our mothers had aborted us? Like we would have “remembered” it or something? But we WOULD remember being born & not wanted and raised in a home where no one cared about us. We may even grow up to be a menace to society because we didn’t care to follow the laws.

I’ve heard this argument more than once, and I couldn’t stay silent any longer.

JMO, you’re absolutely right and I respect your opinion on it. My point is…she should think about what she needs to own in it instead of just strugging it off like it’s a flu shot.

But hey, that’s just MY opinion…

Sorry, that should have said “shrugging”.

@Nancy Kloster – Mistakes? Couldn’t afford to raise the baby? Dating the wrong man? Here’s a clue: People are responsible for their own actions. Losers can always find excuses to have someone else fix their mistakes. YOU were the one who chose to get pregnant. Everything else is just words.

See my comment below.

You still chose to have sex. Typically when you have unprotected sex….you get pregnant. That’s how it works.

Sorry, but it is your fault.

BUT, I forgive you and so will GOD if you ask for it. THAT’S your second chance.

@Nancy Kloster – Even though your religion does not condone birth control, you were still the one who chose to follow that teaching. Nothing stopped you but your own refusal to use it. It was still your choice. Your religion did not make you do anything. Again – your choice.

Question, if your religion does not condone birth control, am I correct to assume that it also does not condone pre marital sex?

Your church condemns birth control, but abortion is OK because it’s legal? OMG. What twisted thinking.

@Katie – I’m still trying to figure that one out myself.

Nancy, you are SO RIGHT. It’s every womans right to commit murder.

Every Libtard will justify anything as long as it fits in their ideals.

Newsflash Nancy….Legal doesn’t make it right. Obviously you have no morals only legal concerns.

Still, you have every right to your opinion…even IF it’s horribly flawed.

P.S. I don’t need a clue…I have the answer.

Have a good night.

Wait a minute!! You just gave me a clue…you’ve had an abortion haven’t you! Feel guilty?

Ok Nancy, I respect your ability to admit you have made mistakes. Most wouldn’t do that. So I’ll continue to go easy on you.

Let me just say this and hope you continue to admit your issues and understand this point.

You still chose to have sex even when you knew your religion didn’t condone birth control. What did you think was going to happen? So you relied on a legal option to get you out of a jam because you couldn’t “do the time”. What if YOUR mother would have done the same with you? Hmm, I hope that’s a mistake you have only made once.

All do respect.

Ever hear this one….

I have NO right to judge you….GOD will do that in the end. I can only hope for YOUR sake….you are right. If you’re not….may GOD have mercy on your soul.

The differece is…if I’m wrong, I won’t have to pay for it for ETERNITY.

My Voice, ever hear this one? Something in the Bible about repenting for your sins and then being saved. In other words, can’t we live it up and then apologize for our sins later? Catholics do it in confession. Lutherans do it on their death bed. It’s what we’re taught, so don’t blame me.

JMO, you either can’t read or don’t care to…

Womens rights? The bible says sex out of marriage is a sin, so why just stop at 1 sin when you can do them all.

@maybe-I don’t want to judge here but, if her religion doesn’t allow birth control (sounds like Catholic) does it allow sex without being married. I don’t think so. So, she went against the church and then had a abortion that the church also doesn’t allow. Seems like birth control was the lessor of all evils and she wouldn’t have had to kill a baby.

The bible says 1 sin is no more than another sin, a lie is no more a sin than murder. These hypocrites really get me, they are all for womens rights, committing murder yet they don’t use birth control because the church says no. Someone somewhere is going to hell.

@Anonymous-Like I said, I don’t want to judge. I am not real big on religion so I am a long way from a expert.
