SELLS, Ariz., June 1 (UPI) — A homicide investigation has been started after the skeletal remains of five people were discovered in the desert near Sells, Ariz., officials said.
Customs and Border Protection officials said Casa Grande Border Patrol agents discovered the remains Friday and contacted the Tohono O’odham Police Department.
The remains have been taken to the Pima County Medical Examiner’s office for examination, KVOA-TV, Tucson, reported.
Officials said the case has been labeled suspicious because the remains were found in a condition not consistent with people who succumb to the elements. Some news reports said the bodies may have been wrapped in plastic.
Investigators found some paperwork near the remains, KVOA-TV said.
