MASON CITY – Vice Chair Dean Genth of the Mason City Human Rights Commission requested that the following information be made public today, Friday, May 31st, 2013:

I find it necessary to follow-up on the update that I sent out yesterday. The news media reported, and I quote, “As a result, the commission will not have to spend any of the city’s $15,000 funding for fiscal year 2013-2014.”, which tends to be misleading.

My comment was as follows:

“The other good news is that the HUD office in Washington, DC informed the Commission that we may use the left-over funds from our 2012 fair housing contract to cover administrative costs, which includes paying accrued earnings owed to our departing Director, Lionel Foster. In that regard, the Commission will not have to spend any of the city’s $15,000 FY 2013-2014 funding.”
Therefore, the commission will not use any of the $15,000.00 FY 2013-2014 funding to compensate Director Foster. The Human Rights Commission will instead be able to use those monies for administrative costs and community outreach and education. I trust that this will clear up any confusion that exists concerning the commission’s use of the $15,000.00.

Sincerely,

Dean Genth, Vice Chair
