Mason City, Iowa – May 29, 2013 – As part of the City of Mason City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, a survey to measure how, when and where people bike or walk in Mason City is now online. Citizens are encouraged to go to www.activatemasoncity.com and click on “Take a Survey.”

The survey measures how and why people walk or bike to destinations and asks respondents to react to different kinds of bicycle trails, marked bicycle lanes, sidewalks and other facilities. This information will be used to determine routes to popular destinations, comfort with different types of bike and pedestrian trails and facilities, and how and why people bike or walk to work, school, recreation or other places. Anyone without access to a computer can contact the Development Services Department at 421-3626 and a paper survey will be mailed to them.

The survey will be available online until June 28.

It will end up as other City projects, falling apart. Look at the current bike path system, a patchwork, with too many dead ends and high curbs to navigate. Until someone complained about loosing a wheel on the path along Willow Creek, it was horrid.

Some of Mason City’s bike riders do not adhere to the laws regarding their use, few have or use proper lights or use signals. But the minute someone gets hurt or worse, they will blame someone else.

@observer-agreed.

Would you rather have them driving?

Come to the North End and you can see all of the people that have lost their drivers license for driving impaired or for not paying their fines. They ride bikes all day and night summer, winter and fall.

Good one!
