MARIETTA, Ga., May 24 (UPI) — A Georgia couple are pleading with thieves to return a stolen silver box containing the ashes of their stillborn son.
Jody and Haley Hughey were at work when thieves entered their Cobb County home though a second-floor window and made off with a number of their possessions, ABC News reported Wednesday.
The most valuable to the couple was a silver box with an angel on top that contained the ashes of their son Caleb, who was stillborn in 2008.
“It’s devastating for both of us,” Jody Hughey told ABC.
He said ever since Caleb’s death his wife has struggled to become pregnant again.
“What they took from us has absolutely no value whatsoever to them,” Hughey said. “If someone happens across it, I would ask that they just simply call the police and turn it in.”
Grief counselor Joanne Cacciatore said parents mourn stillborn babies as they would any child.
