Sanity hearing set for alleged killer nanny

NEW YORK, May 22 (UPI) — A nanny charged in New York with killing two children in her care will get a chance to challenge a finding she is sane enough for trial, a judge says.

Yoselyn Ortega made a court appearance Tuesday, the New York Daily News reported. Justice Gregory Carro in Manhattan Supreme Court, the trial-level court in New York State, scheduled a hearing beginning June 24.

Ortega, 50, allegedly killed Lucia Krim, 6, and her 2-year-old brother, Leo, in their family’s apartment on the Upper West Side in October 2012, while their mother was out with her other daughter, Nessie.

Parents Marina and Kevin Krim announced this month they are expecting another son.

Valerie Van Leer-Greenburg, Ortega’s lawyer, says the finding Ortega is sane was flawed.
