Gang raped at 11, victim now pregnant at 14

HOUSTON, May 22 (UPI) — The mother of a Texas girl who was gang raped when she was 11 says she was upset when she found her daughter, now 14, is pregnant.

When the woman learned her daughter was pregnant in December, she said, “I was like, ‘Go away. Get away from me.’ I was upset,” KHOU-TV, Houston, reported Tuesday.

The girl was sexually assaulted by 20 men and boys in 2010 in Cleveland, a small community about 50 miles north of Houston.

Most of the suspects have been convicted or pleaded guilty.

After spending some time in foster care, the teenager moved to Houston in August to live with her mother and siblings.

The father of the child is the girl’s 15-year-old boyfriend.

The mother was stoic about her daughter’s pregnancy despite the child’s previous violent exposure to sex.

“I see it this way. I think it’s pretty common that sometimes girls, when that happens to them, they try to find the comfort in someone else, like they want to feel loved,” the soon-to-be grandmother said.

Her daughter plans to keep the baby.

The boyfriend does not face any charges because Texas law does not consider it statutory rape when two minors close in age have consensual sex.
