BAGHDAD, May 22 (UPI) — At least 12 people were killed Wednesday when gunmen opened fire inside a brothel in Baghdad, officials said.
The victims included five men and seven women who were killed and a man and woman who were injured, CNN reported. No group has taken responsibility for the shooting.
Violence between Shiite and Sunni Muslims has recently been on the rise in Iraq but both groups have been known to target brothels, which are forbidden by the Koran. The brothel was located in a mixed neighborhood, Zayouna, where gunmen recently targeted stores selling alcohol, allowing customers to leave and killing the Christian employees, the BBC said.
