CHICAGO, May 14 (UPI) — Carlos Gonzalez blasted two solo home runs and went 5-for-5 in the Colorado Rockies’ 9-4 defeat of the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field Tuesday.
Gonzalez, who also doubled and singled twice, batted third in the lineup ahead of cleanup hitter Troy Tulowitzki, who went 3-for-5 and drove in a run.
The Rockies had lost five of their previous six games but erupted for 17 hits Tuesday and got a solid start from Jeff Francis (2-3), who allowed one run in six innings.
Carlos Villanueva (1-3) was less lustrous. He was hung with the loss after allowing seven runs on 12 hits over five innings. Darwin Barney homered for the Cubs and drove in two runs.
