SEOUL, May 5 (UPI) — South Korean President Park Geun-hye left Sunday for the United States to meet with President Obama to discuss North Korean threats, officials said.
The Tuesday summit will be Park’s first with Obama since she took office in February, Yonhap News Agency reported.
She is first scheduled Monday to meet South Korean-born U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York City. She’ll head later that day to Washington.
While in Washington, Park is expected to address a joint session of Congress, Yonhap said.
Park’s summit with Obama could address Seoul’s demand for the right to reprocess spent nuclear fuel, as well as North Korea’s nuclear threats and war rhetoric.
They are expected to present a united front in their position that a nuclear North Korea is unacceptable, officials told Yonhap.
